Grit, determination and gut-load of passion saw 10 boys from our Youth Zones compete on behalf of OnSide, to make the Under 19s quarter-finals at Ambition’s 5-aside National Football Championship on Saturday.
After only one training session together, the boys from our Youth Zones in Manchester (The Factory), Wigan and Blackburn stood side-by-side to compete against over 50 clubs from across the country taking part in the Tournament.
Commenting on the Team’s achievement, Ishmail Issat, Sports Co-ordinator at Blackburn Youth Zone, said: “My highlight from the competition has been seeing these boys come together as complete strangers, play together as a team and become to being strong team mates and friends.
“Not only are these lads from different towns and cities, but they are also from different cultures and religions. Being part of the Ambition Championship is not just about football and fair play, it’s about showing young people that they can work together with different cultures and communities and still be successful.”
Round by round, the boys fought their way to the quarter-final, showing exceptional sportsmanship and technique. Team OnSide were unfortunately knocked out by the competition winners, Continental Stars in the quarter-final, however have secured a place in the Lucozade Sport Fuel to Rule Cup in Liverpool.
A big thank-you to Pulse Fitness, leading global provider of pioneering commercial fitness equipment and associated leisure solutions, who saved the day and offered to sponsor the Team’s kit so that they could all play in the OnSide colours.
The day also spelled success for Blackburn Youth Zone, as they saw their under 14 boys win their category and take the Championship title!
Congratulations to all those involved – you did OnSide proud!
