Ava’s story: Young Fundraiser of The Year

Ava is a super active young girl in and out of Legacy. She is always willing to help out, get involved, try something new and challenge herself. She’s recently been a huge support and incredible team player, with participating in one of our annual sponsored walk, ‘Leg It For Legacy’.

Ava has shown courage and commitment throughout her fundraising journey. She has set an incredible example of pushing herself and encouraging others. Ava’s family also took part in the challenge and willingly committed to a good cause, by completing 10,000 steps a day for a whole month! Not only was she capable of encouraging her family to jump on board but she amazingly exceeded her goal of fundraising £100 and instead raised £130! Ava is truly one of Legacy’s fundraising champions and because of this, she deservingly won Legacy’s ‘Young Fundraiser of the Year’ award.

Ava’s story

I joined Legacy because I live near and first attended the summer holiday club. My hobbies include dancing, singing and bike riding. I came by myself to Legacy and was nervous because I didn’t know anyone and it looked very big. Now it feels really exciting and fun, and there is lots of things to do there. The cooking room is one of my favourite rooms and all of the staff contribute to making Legacy very fun.

It’s made me open up more because when I first joined, I thought I wouldn’t be able to adapt well because there were so many people and Legacy is very big. Once I started to get comfortable, it improved my confidence a lot.

I signed up to Leg it for Legacy because as we were in lockdown I wasn’t very motivated to walk, run or go outside. My mum showed me the post and I thought why not try it out. It made me more motivated and stronger and is also really good to help raise money for Legacy. It inspired my family to do it as well…it’s also made them a lot fitter and I’m really proud of that. I found it good, exhausting on some days but got through it.

Ava is very energetic, intelligent, a quick learner and very competitive. However, even if she doesn’t win she always encourages others to do better as well. You can see how mature she has become and she is truly a friendly figure to have at Legacy.
