PricewaterhouseCooper’s Manchester office joined forces recently with OnSide as part of the firm’s annual One Firm, One Day volunteering initiative at Oldham College.
The theme of this year’s PwC initiative was employability, with the aim of sharing vital skills to help young people not only get into work, but progress into further education or a career.
Facilitated by OnSide, staff from PwC’s Manchester office headed over to Oldham College to host their ‘Employability Day’ for over 40 young people. Students from the College’s Business Management, Business Administration and IT courses attended the event and received a range of workshops, including career coaching, CV writing and interview techniques by the PwC staff.
Nick Boden, senior partner in PwC’s Manchester office, who volunteered for Onside on the day, said: “We hope events like this give people the chance to raise the aspirations and skills of people who might not have had much insight into the world of work. Our efforts to help the most vulnerable in our communities go beyond a day of concentrated support, but we hope that by running an event on one day we can highlight what a difference sharing some of the skills we use in our everyday work can make to someone’s future prospects and confidence.”
