ASOS and Boohoo, who in response to learning how much pressure a school prom puts on families and young people, have donated over 500 items of prom clothing to OnSide for the benefit of young people across the OnSide network, to wear at their school prom.
OnSide was totally overwhelmed by the generosity of ASOS and Boohoo, who in response to learning how much pressure a school prom puts on families and young people, donated over 500 items of prom clothing to OnSide. This incredible offer will enable young people from across the network to borrow a dress or suit for their prom, ‘booking’ it out on the new, dedicated website which has been built by young people as part of Project Prom. Thus removing the often crippling monetary pressures buying prom outfits has on families. The dresses and suits have been divided equally across all Youth Zones.
Johnson the Cleaners also responded with incredible support, pledging to dry clean all of the prom dresses and suits for free across the Network, ready for use next year.
As expected, Project Prom has caused a huge buzz of excitement throughout the OnSide Network!
The Hive Youth Zone have developed ‘Project Prom’ as part of their enterprise project and are also delivering it through a cohort of the Inspiring Futures courses.
The group was made up of individual young people, who wouldn’t normally engage as a peer group; they worked incredibly hard to achieve certain deliverables, including building and designing a new website, creating an online catalogue (all stock photographed and catalogued by the young people themselves), designing a ‘Project Prom’ logo and creating posters to support the project across the OnSide network.
This is a truly remarkable project, which will have far-reaching positive affects for both young people and their families, for many years to come. We cannot thank BooHoo, ASOS and Johnsons the Cleaners, enough for their incredible support and generosity.
Youth Zones are already planning how to maximise the impact for next years school leavers. They are in talks with local Secondary Schools to publicise Project Prom well in advance, so that every young person has the opportunity to benefit from this incredible offer.
On the evening of the prom, the Youth Zones will also be putting on a ‘Prom Pamper’ night, where the young person will come to get their hair, make-up and nails done for only 50p, helping to alleviate the other money pressures that are associated with school proms.
