When I started coming to the Youth Zone two years ago, I’d just moved to the area and moved schools, so I didn’t know anyone. I joined the Youth Zone as I didn’t have anything to do, and it gave me a place where I didn’t have to be lonely. I was a bit nervous when I first started because I didn’t know anyone and it’s a big building, so it took me a while to get used to it.
I struggled to make friends and it was hard to leave all my old friends behind when I moved. But coming to the Youth Zone has improved my confidence, and I like getting involved in new things. When I started making new friends at school, I found out they came to the Youth Zone too, which also helped.
The Youth Zone is a fun place to be. Sometimes your friends might be there, but you can make new friends as well. My confidence and social skills have improved a lot. The staff have known me a long time which really helps. Rooms such as the ME Zone are a helpful room to go to if I need to calm down if I’m upset or worried about something. When I’m at the Youth Zone I’m more engaged and get to do things I can’t do anywhere else.
In the Holiday Club there are lots of different activities and we get to choose which ones we’d like to take part in. If it wasn’t here for Holiday Club I would be sat on the couch at home with my pets and playing on my phone.
