The official opening day of Croydon’s Legacy Youth Zone has been revealed as Saturday 7th September 2019. To mark the 100-day countdown to opening, young people and staff were joined by Councillor Flemming and Councillor Khan at the £6.5million Youth Zone site.

Located on Whitehorse Road, the state-of-the-art facility will provide thousands of young people aged 8 to 19 and up to 25 for those with additional needs somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.

For an annual membership fee of £5 then just 50p per visit, members will have access to an indoor climbing wall, music room with recording studio, 3G kick pitch, boxing gym, sports hall, training kitchen, fully equipped gym, dance and drama studio, enterprise suite and much more.

From September 7th onwards, Legacy Youth Zone will be open for young people 7 days a week whenever schools are closed, including evenings and weekends, offering registered members over 20 activities every night.

Membership is now open to young people here: www.legacyyouthzone.org

Signing up enables young people to attend the Youth Zone from September 7th and find out more about events in the next 100 days.

Angel Chizea, Young Peoples’ Development Group said:

“I’m really happy to see Legacy finally coming through, with 100 days until it officially opens. I am so excited, it will give a lot of opportunities to myself and other young people in Croydon to make their mark and leave a Legacy.”

Councillor Alisa Flemming, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Learning, said:

“I’m delighted that our amazing new Legacy Youth Zone will soon be opening its doors to young people from all over the borough, offering them a stunning new space and a wealth of new opportunities and experiences. We’re incredibly proud to have invested in this project, and of all the young people who have worked so hard to make it happen – our Choose Your Future campaign is about supporting young people to make positive life choices and Legacy is already doing just that. I can’t wait until it opens.”

Legacy Youth Zone Chief Executive Barnabas Shelbourne said:

“What an exciting time it is as we officially start our 100-day countdown to opening. We can’t wait to open our doors to young people in Croydon, providing them with a safe space to make their mark, discover their talents and develop their skills.

”A huge thank you to all of our supporters for making the Youth Zone dream a reality for Croydon’s young people. Seeing is believing so please join us on Saturday 7th September to celebrate the official opening of Legacy Youth Zone”.

Legacy Youth Zone is being delivered in partnership with OnSide Youth Zones, Croydon Council, and several local businesses and philanthropists who wish to see Croydon flourish. In total £6.5million was raised for the construction of the building, including £3.25million from Croydon Council
