Barnet’s Young People Cast Their Vote

18th May 2016 by OnSide

Young people from across Barnet are being given the opportunity to cast their vote on the new name for Barnet Youth Zone.

25 young people from across the borough have been working tirelessly over the last few months, with London based design agency Sea, to create two brand identities for the new Youth Zone, which are now going out for a public vote across the borough.

The two brand identities developed are:

  • Unitas – Derived from Barnet’s coat of arms, Unitas comes from the Latin word for unity, representing the whole borough coming together to give young people a unique, inspiring and creative environment to achieve their potential.
  • OSH (Our Second Home) – Represents a safe place to go, where young people can express themselves, discover a new passion, have fun and be happy. OSH designed for young people, by young people.

Keith Black, Chair of Barnet Youth Zone said: “We strongly believe that young people should be able to influence the development of the Youth Zone, after all it is their facility. The young people involved in developing these two identities have really put their hearts and souls into creating brands that encompass the values they want their Youth Zone to represent. I can’t wait to see which identity is favourite with the rest of Barnet’s young people – this is a brand that will become synonymous with the Youth Zone for years to come and I couldn’t be more proud of their efforts. I can’t thank Sea Design enough for their efforts in creating two wonderful designs.”

Zuzana Fernandes, member of Barnet Youth Zone’s Young People’s Development group said: “Being involved in the group has been really exciting, as we got to choose what we wanted from the design to the name of our future Youth Zone. We were lucky enough to visit the other Youth Zones in the north and they were really amazing. I really want people to vote because it’s obvious that OnSide Youth Zones make a huge difference and it’s important that the community is a part of that.”
Barnet Council recently gave the go ahead for the £6million state-of-the-art OnSide Youth Zone to be developed on Montrose Playing Fields in Burnt Oak, near to Grahame Park and Colindale.

Voting will close on 17th June and results will be released shortly afterwards and we certainly can’t wait to find out which is the winning entry. Find out more about Barnet Youth Zone by clicking here.
