John Roberts makes bonus pledge to OnSide

21st July 2020 by OnSide

OnSide Youth Zones is delighted by a pledge made by our board member John Roberts, which could see the charity benefit by up to £20million.

John – who chair’s OnSide’s Executive Board – is the founder and Chief Executive of AO which has recently put forward a new “value creation” plan to investors that will see its staff share profits over the next five years should the firm’s share prices rise.

The scheme will kick in if prices rise by over 250%. It would mean John would be in line to receive a maximum £20million bonus – all of which he has promised to OnSide Youth Zones.

Speaking in the Times this week, John spoke about how the scheme ensured “everyone shares in the success of AO World”.

Reacting to the pledge, OnSide Youth Zones Chief Executive Kathryn Morley said: “This is an extremely generous gesture by John which would go towards benefitting thousands of young people across the country. It would enhance our existing network of Youth Zones and, crucially, go a long way to helping us build more and therefore reach even more young people.

“Philanthropy and generosity is key for all charities and, now more than ever, we need people like John who stand up and put young people first. We are forever grateful to John, not just for this pledge, but for his relentless support for OnSide, our Youth Zones and most importantly, the country’s young people.”
