The 2018 Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Excellence Awards for the North West Region took place on Friday 27 April 2018, where we were honoured that OnSide Youth Zones, in partnership with Seven Architecture, HH Smith & Sons Co Ltd, WCP Associates and Wirral Council Building Control picked up the award for the Best Public Service Building Award for The Hive, Wirral Youth Zone.
The focus of these awards is to recognise technical excellence rather than aesthetics. The use of innovative solutions to overcome technical issues, collaborative working with Building Control and paying attention to energy and sustainability issues are just some of the criteria the judges used to decide the winners.
The Best Public Service Building Award recognises any new public building and is based around the level of community involvement and how the local community has received the development, in conjunction with any Community initiatives or special projects linked to the scheme.
LABC’s Chief Executive Paul Everall said: “The awards are an opportunity for us to celebrate some of the very best in construction in England and Wales, recognising the high level of quality and skill we can and do reach in the UK.”
Onside’s Facilities Development and Deputy Chief Executive Rob Carter said: “It’s fantastic that the dedication of everyone who worked on the building on The Hive has been recognised by the LABC Building Excellence Awards. I’m particularly pleased that our innovative model of community collaboration, which was key in the successful building of this state-of-the-art Youth Zone has been highlighted.”
Grand Finals will be held on Friday 9 November at the Westminster Park Plaza in London.
