Lord Mayor’s Appeal – City Giving Day

26th September 2018 by Onside Youth Zones

We had an awesome day celebrating City Giving Day organsised by the Lord Mayor’s Appeal!

A record-breaking 300 City businesses took part in yesterday’s #CityGivingDay which is the one day in the year when businesses unite to celebrate and showcase their charitable and volunteering efforts with employees, clients, suppliers and local communities in which they work.  It was amazing to see thousands of City workers, clients, suppliers and supporters participating in the event all wearing red in support of the day.

As one of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s charities alongside Place2Be and The Samaritans, we were delighted to take part in the day’s events which began with our young people having the honour of accompanying Alderman Peter Estlin as he visited some of the participating companies across the Square Mile.

One of the highlights for our young people, was most definitely the Tour de City – a fundraising static bike competition which saw our team cycle over 12 miles in 40 minutes!

Our young people did a fantastic job throughout the day on their information stall at M&G Investments, educating City Giving Day participants and the public about OnSide Youth Zones and the work we do to providing young people with a safe and inspiring environment where new experiences are offered, horizons are broadened and aspirations are raised.

Other incredible fundraising activities throughout the day included a CIBC World Markets’ bus, which toured the City raising money for nearly 7 hours!

We ended the day at Blenheim Chalcot, the company co-founded by Charles Mindenhall our London champion, who presented to staff about OnSide Youth Zones and had arranged for a Charity Bake Sale – but which also included an impromptu Paper Bin Challenge, arranged by our young people to further bolster fundraising efforts!  A great time was had by all!

We had a truly wonderful day and met some fantastic people.   We would like to say a massive thank you to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal for choosing us as one of their charity partners and also to the hundreds of businesses taking part who truly showcased their invaluable charitable and philanthropic work and support.  We can’t wait for next year!
