Regatta boss to head up Barnet Youth Zone

10th March 2016 by Onside Youth Zones

Keith Black, Chairman of the Regatta Group outdoor clothing company has agreed to spearhead the proposed soon to be developed Barnet Youth Zone, as Chair.

With the development of Barnet Youth Zone’s new brand now well underway, as young people from across the borough work together to create a visual identity for their new facility, one of Keith’s first priorities for the project will be to help secure the essential funding to run the Youth Zone for the first three years.

As one of the UK’s leading entrepreneurs, Keith is a philanthropist with a strong personal ethos and commitment to ‘giving something back’. This ethos runs throughout the family company, which established The Regatta Foundation to support many different causes.

Keith Black, Chair of Barnet Youth Zone said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been given the opportunity to help shape Barnet Youth Zone. I have been involved with OnSide Youth Zones for some time now and every time I visit a Youth Zone I am inspired by the vision of hundreds of young people spending their evenings and weekends employed in a huge range of activities. This facility will make a huge difference to thousands of young people living in Barnet and I am excited to be taking up the challenge of giving them a safe, affordable and inspiring place to spend their leisure time.”

Over the last few weeks, young people from the borough have been working on the brand for their Youth Zone. They recently visited OnSide Youth Zones in the north of England to begin preparation for the brand development, which they will present to Keith Black and the Barnet Youth Zone Board in the next couple of weeks.

Barnet Youth Zone Young People’s Development Group member Sydeni, said: “The weekend in the north was a lot of fun. I met new people and I was able to see what our Youth Zone in Barnet may look like. I can’t wait to have one in London.”

Leah, a fellow member of the Young People’s Development Group added: “The trip gave us the chance to see how a Youth Zone would look in London. It showed me how it is going to help the young people of Barnet. I especially liked Wigan Youth Zone and the fact the young people’s artwork was showcased across the centre – it shows they are appreciated.”

A planning application for our second Youth Zone in London is expected to be submitted for the project by summer 2016.
