Take a Virtual TourArslaan Hussain, a member of Mahdlo Youth Zone in Oldham, reveals all in this heart-warming interview regarding the challenges he has overcome since being diagnosed with cancer back in November 2013.
Arslaan was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year. The treatment he received resulted in damage to his legs and so he is now a wheelchair user.
He first came to Mahdlo in November 2014 – forced by his social worker. He didn’t want to engage as a participant, but wanted to volunteer instead. Since then his confidence to engage with young people has improved dramatically. He accesses the centre as a member and works as a young leader up to 2 times per week.
Thanks to the opportunities of the Youth Zone and the A Level Playing Field Project – a new unique partnership project between OnSide, our Youth Zones and Seashell Trust, which aims to support over 1,200 disabled young people, aged 8-25 yr olds – Arslaan has not let his disability affect him and his determined efforts have lead to him now being an active volunteer at Mahdlo.
