Warrington Youth Zone starts to take shape

13th May 2021 by OnSide

Warrington’s new multimillion-pound Youth Zone is taking shape as work progresses on site of the new state-of-the-art facility.

Currently under construction in the centre of Warrington, in close proximity to the bus and rail stations, the new Youth Zone is set to open in spring 2022.

Once open, the £6.9million Youth Zone will provide a safe and inspiring place for thousands of young people to enjoy their leisure time, allowing them to develop their skills, discover their talents and realise their full potential.

Warrington Youth Zone will offer over 20 activities every evening for young people aged between seven and 19, up to 25 for those with a disability.

For just 50p per visit, members will have access to an indoor climbing wall, four court sports hall, training kitchen, music room with a recording studio, fully equipped gym, dance and drama studio, 3G kick pitch, arts and crafts room, enterprise and employability suite and much more. Activities will be delivered by trained youth workers and supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.

The Youth Zone is being developed by the national youth charity OnSide in partnership with Warrington Borough Council and the private sector community.

Dave McNicholl, Chief Executive of Warrington Youth Zone said:

“It is great to see Warrington’s new Youth Zone is taking shape and I am pleased to report building work is progressing well. With an array of activities available, Warrington Youth Zone will provide new opportunities for thousands of young people. If you are interested in supporting young people through this new charity then please get in touch to join us on this exciting journey.”

Ian Threadgold, Managing Director of Caddick Construction NW said:

“Work is progressing extremely well on site and it’s great to see the building take shape which gives the first visual indication of how impressive this facility is going to be.

He added: “After more than a year of lockdowns and uncertainty there has never been a greater need for facilities like these where young people can go to socialise, play sports and learn new skills. It is the perfect time for kids to be kids again and enjoy everything that the Warrington Youth Zone will have to offer.”

Warrington Youth Zone will build upon the legacy set by Warrington Youth Club, which currently operates out of The Peace Centre and will move its services to the new facility.
