Take a Virtual TourNational youth charity OnSide has appointed Anabel Hoult, Chief Executive of Which? as Chair of its Board of Trustees, following the announcement at its Board meeting earlier this week.
She takes on the role at a pivotal time for OnSide, as the charity continues to grow its national network of Youth Zones – state-of-the-art youth centres providing inspiration, support and opportunities to young people in some of the UK’s most economically disadvantaged communities. There are 16 Youth Zones in the growing OnSide Network, with six more currently in development in Barnsley, Bristol, Crewe, Grimsby, Thurrock and Preston.
Under Anabel’s leadership, the charity will continue its drive towards the ambitious goal of 35 Youth Zones by 2035, ensuring more young people in disadvantaged communities can unlock their potential.
Anabel brings extensive experience in leadership, governance and consumer insight from her roles as Chief Executive of Which? and senior positions at Save the Children. An OnSide Trustee since 2020, and a volunteer youth worker early in her career, Anabel is deeply passionate about creating opportunities for young people to thrive.
Anabel succeeds Charles Mindenhall, Chief Executive of Blenheim Chalcot who steps down after four years as Chair. Before taking up the role, Charles served as an OnSide Trustee from 2015 and personally led the development of the charity’s Youth Zones across London. He also chaired Future Youth Zone in Barking and Dagenham, where his vision helped establish a Youth Zone that has transformed thousands of young lives in East London.
As Chair, Charles oversaw a period of significant growth for the charity, during which OnSide evolved into a thriving national network reaching more than 50,000 young people each year. His leadership and commitment have laid strong foundations for the next stage of OnSide’s journey.
Commenting on her appointment, Anabel Hoult, CEO of Which? and newly appointed Chair of OnSide, said:
“I’m honoured to take on the role of Chair of OnSide, an organisation that transforms the lives of young people by giving them safe spaces, opportunities and people who believe in them.
“I’ve seen first-hand the difference OnSide makes, building confidence, resilience and a sense of possibility in the next generation. That mission deeply resonates with me, both personally and professionally.
” I want to thank Charles for his outstanding leadership and dedication, which have helped OnSide grow into the powerful national movement it is today. I’m looking forward to working with the Board and the incredible team across the Youth Zone network to help OnSide reach even more young people and communities across the UK.”
Outgoing Chair Charles Mindenhall said:
“It’s been a privilege to serve as Chair of OnSide and to see the life-changing impact Youth Zones have on young people and their communities. Anabel brings outstanding leadership, deep commitment and a genuine passion for creating opportunities for young people. I’m confident she will guide OnSide to even greater success in the years ahead.”
