Wolverhampton Youth Zone Update

13th September 2013 by Onside Youth Zones
Planning Application Official Photo“To be having a Youth Zone built in Wolverhampton is something that will bring young people together.  The Youth Zone will provide young people with facilities which they want, like and most of all respect.  As a Young Person and a deputy Youth MP I can’t wait for it to open. I also want to thank all those involved in supporting this project”
Kashmire Hawker, member of the Youth Development Group for Wolverhampton Youth Zone.
Kashmire was one of the young people from the Youth Development Group for Wolverhampton Youth Zone, who presented the planning permission to Councillor Peter Bilson, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Prosperity.  The proposals have been drawn up by the Wolverhampton Youth Zone charity, set up by OnSide, The Morgan Foundation and Wolverhampton City Council.  The application will go before the planning committee in November.
Wolverhampton Youth Zone will offer young people a brand new, purpose built facility offering a wide range of activities, including sport, fitness, dance, arts, music, media and self-improvement for those between the ages of eight and 19.
The two-storey Youth Zone will include a four-court sports hall with facilities for indoor tennis, badminton, football, netball and basketball and a separate climbing wall. There will also be a fitness suite with the latest gym equipment and an outdoor multi-use games area.
The centre will also have a kitchen and café area selling healthy food and drink, multi-purpose areas for dance, music, arts and crafts, gaming and DJ-ing, martial arts and boxing facilities.
The aim of the Wolverhampton Youth Zone (like the existing Youth Zones) is simple, to give young people;
  • somewhere to do
  • something to do
  • someone to talk to
