Wolverhampton Youth Zone well on ‘The Way’

23rd February 2016 by Onside Youth Zones

Our latest Youth Zone to open – The Way in Wolverhampton is celebrating its first month anniversary – and what a first month it has been.

With over 2457 members already signed up and with an average of over 200 young people attending both senior and junior sessions each evening, Wolverhampton’s young people are having a mighty time in their new £6m facility.

The team at Wolverhampton are also regularly hosting 50 young people and their families at their Sunday Inclusion sessions and one parent recently fed back the following glowing report:

“Hello to all the lovely staff at The Way Youth Zone. My daughter has been going to The Way since the day it opened and I must say as a parent with a special needs child who has autism and learning difficulties, The Way is such a warm and welcoming place where my child can learn and make new friends and be apart of a youth group and be part of a team and enjoy great and wonderful things to do. The staff are amazing with my daughter and understand her and make her feel so welcome. I’m a single parent and since The Way has been built, I found it hard for my daughter to go to a place where she can be herself without getting stressed. It has been amazing to see my daughter out grow her fears and get involved more with other children of all ages and disabilities. I am as she is so pleased that Wolverhampton has a place where all children can be themselves and do activities that they enjoy and I know that every sunday my daughter will go to a warm and welcoming place. So from one happy parent – a big thank you!”

In the first week alone, the Youth Zone had over 1,000 young people signed up as members. The website has been over-ridden with hits – 18,000 to be precise and to add to that, over 80,000 people were reached across The Way’s social media channels! The power of the internet – eh!

As you can see from the map below, young people WILL and ARE travelling from well outside of Wolverhampton to access The Way.

But as well as the fantastic online stats, the work on the ground is what really matters….

With at least 20 activities taking place each night, including over 140 activities and 650 hours of voluntary hours in the first week alone, the young people of Wolverhampton (and beyond!) really do now have something to do, somewhere to go and someone to talk to.
