Young people come together for Trewern residential

11th September 2019 by OnSide

OnSide ambassadors from across the Youth Zone network recently came together for an unforgettable residential to Trewern Outdoor Recreational Centre.

Young people from Wirral (The Hive), Inspire (Chorley), Mahdlo (Oldham), Barking and Dagenham (Future), Barnet (Unitas) and Wigan enjoyed a jam-packed week outdoor fun, learning and activities.

New friendships were made while old ones from previous excursions were renewed with smiles across faces all five days.

The incredible team at Trewern ensured the group were constantly active, learning new skills and testing themselves.

With activities including climbing mountains, canoeing, caving and trekking, the young people also enhanced their values of teamwork and respect.

One by one, the various minibuses arrived in the Welsh village and after countless hugs, introductions and icebreakers they were split into five groups and headed out on the various activities.

The rain held off but the group had to battle some blustery winds as they climbed the mountains and many a canoe did capsize before expert sailors were made.

The absolute highlight, though, was that although the Youth Zones came in their individual groups, they finished the trip as one collective with lifelong friendships formed.

Daniel from Future Youth Zone said: “It’s been really good because it’s something I’d never have done by myself. It was really good being in a group with different Youth Zones and getting to know different people. It showed that other people can motivate you even though you don’t know them well.”
