Take a Virtual TourDuring Lockdown Youth Zone member Sarah* has been boosted hugely by a daily phone call from her Youth Zone youth worker at a set time each day.
Pre Covid-19 Sarah struggled with mental health difficulties and has been diagnosed with autism. She was a regular at the Youth Zone sessions, getting support, making friends and having a break from the pressures at home.
Sarah lives with her Gran and has become her unofficial carer in recent years as her Dad has visited less and less, especially now since lockdown.
Sarah’s Gran has ill health and recently had a fall. Sarah began to struggle coping, worrying that her Gran is going to become more ill.
With the support of her youth worker she is now able to handle isolation and lockdown better: “I was missing just being able to come in to the centre and off-load my worries and concerns. The phone calls have really helped as I can still off-load and it is giving me a sense of normality. Having someone to talk through my assignment with has really helped with my university course work too”
