Getting the skills to pay the bills!
Young people from all of our Youth Zones receive additional support to help them compete in the job market following the introduction of our Network employability project – Get a Job.Â
Thanks to external funding we have implemented a new ‘Get A Job’ programme, which aims to help young people aged 16-19 years old get the right skills to secure employment.
The project, coordinated by OnSide, is particularly distinct as it allows our Youth Zones to support young people who are not in education, employment or training, as well as young people deemed ‘at risk’ or ‘hard to reach’, as well as those from deprived backgrounds.
Giving young people the employability skills to succeed, as they move into adulthood, is vital to helping them lead happy, healthy and more aspirational lives. Thanks to support from the Accenture Foundation UK our Youth Zone network is helping young people across the North West to find employment, education or training opportunities.
We caught up with two of Wigan Youth Zone’s Get a Job Graduates who have progressed through the course and secured a job as Apprentice’s at Wigan’s local Specsavers store. Hear their thoughts on the course as well as the success they have made of themselves in their new roles.
Young people from The Factory Youth Zone’s ‘Get a Job’ course have secured paid work at Manchester’s new authentic Vietnamese restaurant named ‘Pho’.
