Young people aged 12-16 will be able to join the UFC – OnSide Youth Mentoring Programme, which will comprise of weekly classes over a 6-8 week period initially. The programme will be run at three OnSide Youth Zones, including Legacy Youth Zone located in South London (Croydon), The Way Youth Zone in the Midlands (Wolverhampton) and The Hive Youth Zone in the Northwest (Wirral).
Martial arts are proven to help young people develop a wide range of key skills to support their physical and mental health. This includes improved cognitive function and muscle strength, better balance and coordination, enhanced flexibility and better self-awareness.
The programme aims to help young people develop key skills with focus on self-discipline and self-defence, while giving them access to inspirational expert coaches and instructors from UFC, in a safe and supportive way within a familiar environment.
The UFC – OnSide Youth Mentoring Programme will be led by former UFC light heavyweight Jimi Manuwa, UFC welterweight Leon Edwards and UFC middleweight Darren Till. Each athlete will lead a martial arts focused mentoring programme as part of the after-school health and wellness curriculum at the three OnSide Youth Zones taking part.
We’re delighted to be working with the UFC on this mentoring programme. Should you like to donate to OnSide to deliver future projects for young people, your support would be greatly appreciated.
