Why Barnet?

All of our Youth Zone locations are chosen strategically to have the maximum impact. Barnet was chosen for a number of reasons, including:

  • Colindale and Burnt Oak are within the bottom 20% of ‘most deprived’ wards in England (IMD 2015)
  • Child poverty in the borough is highest in Burnt Oak (36%) and Colindale (37.5%) –against a national average of 29%
  • It has extremely high levels of child obesity in Colindale (13.1%) and Burnt Oak (12.1%)
  • There are 57,000 young people – estimated growth suggests 114,000 by 2031

Redrow becomes Barnet Youth Zone's first Founder Patron

Leading developer Redrow has pledged its support for young people in the London Borough of Barnet by becoming the first founder patron for Unitas Youth Zone.

Redrows Mark Parker and James Holmear enjoyed a tour of Wigan Youth Zone to see what Unitas – a name chosen by the young people of Barnet – will offer once it opens in 2018.
