Why Warrington?

There is a marked difference in prosperity and the quality of life between the inner wards and affluent outer suburbs and villages.  Twenty neighbourhoods, concentrated around the town centre and home to around 35,600 residents, are amongst the most deprived areas in the UK.  Within these wards there are acute problems relating to educational attainment, crime and child poverty.  Over 5,000 children live in poverty.

The use of drugs and alcohol amongst young people is well above the national average with hospital admissions for alcohol misuse by young people of 52 per 100,000 – 22% higher than the national average – and 119 per 100,000 for substance misuse – 57% higher than the national average.  Obesity amongst Year 6 pupils is also a concern with 18.7% of Year 6 pupils classed as obese.

OnSide is extremely grateful to our wonderful supporters, without whom our Youth Zones simply would not be in existence.
