Chorley Youth Zone Planning Application Submitted

7th March 2016 by Onside Youth Zones

Chorley’s new youth facility is fast becoming a reality with the submission of a planning application to Chorley Council this week, for approval to build Inspire, Chorley Youth Zone.

The news comes after a public exhibition before Christmas where as well as viewing the plans, local people were able to speak with members of the project team and provide feedback.

Chorley Youth Zone has a proposed site on Railway Street, where The Arts Partnership and Leigh Arms currently stands and will be a purpose-built facility for the town’s young people aged 8 – 19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities.

The Youth Zone will offer close to 20 activities each night ranging from football, boxing dancing and climbing to creative arts, music, drama and employability training – all for just 50p per visit.

The submission of planning permission is a significant milestone in the development of Chorley’s new Youth Zone and marks an exciting prospect for the young people of the town.

Chairman of Chorley Youth Zone, Andrew Turner said: “A lot of hard work has gone into gathering the thoughts of young people, the council and local residents in order to prepare the Youth Zone’s planning application and we are now delighted to be in a position to submit. The young people of Chorley deserve an OnSide Youth Zone which will give them a safe and inspiring place to spend their leisure time, and we are on the road to making that dream a reality.”

Andrew Turner, Chairman of the Chorley Group, which was voted Lancashire’s Family Business of the Year, was appointed Youth Zone Chair in October 2015 before the Youth Zone’s branding was revealed a month later as ‘Inspire – Do your thing’ following consultation with over 400 young people from across Chorley.

The Youth Zone is being created in partnership with Chorley Council, the Arts Partnership, Lancashire County Council and OnSide to make the new facility a reality for Chorley’s young people.
