Wigan Youth Zone is set to launch its own internet channel with the help of SBTV, the UK’s leading youth broadcaster.
SBTV began in 2006 when young entrepreneur Jamal Edwards, aka Smokey Barz, was bought a handycam by his mum and began filming local rappers. Jamal started uploading the videos to his YouTube channel SBTV and as the channel began to attract more attention, the business grew ‘from bedroom to boardroom’ to establish a production team of ten people.
Today, SBTV have worked in partnership with restaurant chain Nando’s, established their own record label ‘Just Jam’ and have been featured in a series of Google Chrome advertisements. They are now the UK’s leading youth broadcaster and with over 150million views on the channel to date, the business shows no signs of slowing down.
Inspired by this success, Wigan Youth Zone will be launching WYZ:TV this February with the support of SBTV’s Director Liam Tootill.
