Color Obstacle Rush 2018

On your Mark, Set… Paint!

Nothing like great weather and a good 5k Color Obstacle Rush to make your day! Members of the London Youth Zone development groups and Ambassadors for London came together to participate in a 5k Color Obstacle Rush in collaboration with Street Games this year in Kempton Park, West London.

It was an eventful day, coupled up with good weather, which enabled the team to make the most of the experience. The objective of the day was to complete the racecourse in their set record time and build upon their team work skills as well as having fun. The course consisted of inflatable obstacles that they had to go through whilst being sprayed with paint.

Street Games is a charity which brings sports to disadvantaged Young People and some of the young people from London developing Youth Zones have been given the opportunity in the past to engage with the Street Games over the years.

As London is a year away from welcoming its first three OnSide Youth Zones, the young people have been busier than ever to prepare for this exciting new chapter by talking to their fellow peers, presenting, attending fundraising events as well as working closely with design agencies to give their Youth Zone a creative and stylish appearance. As OnSide have given these young people a platform to connect and communicate with one another as well as making new friends across the network. They have also had the chance to visit Youth Zone across the network particularly in the North West and have a feel of hat their youth zone might be like once it has opened. It is an exciting time for London as they see the coming of a range of mega youth zones which will have an impact on the lives of young people and their communities.

At the end of the eventful obstacle rush, the young people were filled with laughs and not only an incredible story to tell but hours to spend in the shower getting paint out of their hair!

My involvement with OnSide has lead to amazing opportunities, one of the most recent being a sports project with Street Games. For my project I decided to get young people running, so I made a group chat with 10 young people and asked them to video themselves doing the 6 practice runs. We had good incentive as if we completed all of the runs we did a 5k obstacle colour rush. It was challenging, exciting and something new, thank you OnSide and Street Games!
