Aspiring Leaders Programme

The Talent Academy was created to recognise and develop outstanding performers from across the network who have the leadership potential, aspiration and engagement to rise through the organisation to one of the senior leadership roles of Chief Executive or Youth Work Manager.

After launching in 2017, we have already seen employees progressing in to brand new positions as a result of their training and development, in both their own Youth Zones and in other Youth Zones in the network. At OnSide, we recognise that existing employees are already passionate about OnSide and the opportunities Youth Zones offer, are familiar with and committed to the values and the culture of the charity and for this, we wish to reward them with focussed professional development.

The Talent Academy is championed and supported by OnSide and Youth Zone senior management.  It is seen as a critical part of ensuring all staff can contribute to the best of their ability by providing development opportunities that benefit not only their own Youth Zone, but also of the whole network.

Developing our people...

The Talent Academy develops our people for the future to ultimately inspire the next generation. It aims to ensure we have an exceptional talent pipeline across the organization and provide career paths for top talent within the network.

We believe in ‘growing our own’ and providing career development opportunities to ultimately enrich the offer for young people and to support our employees to grow.

 

Whats involved...

There are two major programmes:

  1. The Aspiring Leaders programme recognises and develops outstanding performers from across the network who have the leadership potential to rise through the organisation to the role of Chief Executive or Youth Work Manager. The programme lasts for 12 months and consists of training modules, coaching and a placement in another Youth Zone. The modules cover a broad scope of areas including Leadership and Management, Finance, Fundraising, Human Resources and Youth Work Delivery, underpinned by the OnSide values.
  2. The Fundraising Academy equips those with fundraising responsibilities with the knowledge and skills to support the fundraising agenda. It is a 3-month programme consisting of training modules, coaching and mentoring. The modules include how to identify major gift donors, how to demonstrate effective stewardship and how to make successful ‘asks’ amongst others. The programme creates an enduring network amongst the participants to share learnings and support each other through challenges.
